COCONUT & COCONUT BASED PRODUCTS

Sri Lanka, with a culture deeply intertwined with the coconut tree and a climate that ensures year-round harvesting, stands as the world's fourth-largest exporter of coconut products. Among the most sought-after Sri Lankan coconut exports in the global market are desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, and coconut water. The country's bristle fiber products, crafted through the indigenous 'Drum' extraction method, and activated carbon derived from coconut shells are also in high demand.

Coconut constitutes approximately 12% of all agricultural production in Sri Lanka, with a total land area under cultivation covering 409,244 hectares as of 2017. By 2017, the country produced about 2,500 to 3,000 million nuts annually. New measures have been introduced to enhance the annual coconut crop to 3,600 million nuts per year.

Sri Lanka enjoys global recognition for its Desiccated Coconut (DC) and Brown fiber quality. The distinctive white color and characteristic taste of Sri Lankan DC place the country in the fourth position in the world export market for all kernel products. Sri Lanka also holds the global No. 1 rank for the export of brown fiber. The drum system employed for fiber extraction produces long, pure fibers, ideal for the brush industry.

SUPERIOR QUALITY

Sri Lankan desiccated coconut is celebrated for its fine texture, flavor, and lightest color, making it the preferred choice in the global market. It is widely used in the bakery and confectionery industry for fillings in nut bars, cookies, and biscuits, and for decorating cakes, pies, and other baked goods.

ECO-FRIENDLY CULTIVATION

More than 80% of Sri Lanka's coconut production is derived from smallholdings. In these smallholdings, the usage of insecticides, weedicides, and fertilizers is minimal, rendering the crop predominantly organic. This approach has a minimal impact on the environment, resulting in limited water and soil pollution. For buyers prioritizing eco-friendly cultivation, Sri Lanka's coconut and coconut-based products align with stringent environmental standards.

CONTINUOUS INNOVATION

Sri Lankan manufacturers of coconut-based products are renowned for their remarkable competence in Research and Development, thanks to substantial investments in talent and technology.
